I usually don't ride on January 1st, but this year I decided that it would be a fun thing to do was to go 150 miles for breakfast! And then Mark (Capt Gruuvy) decided to throw a party for the Rod (Old2Wheeler), who was picking (buying) Mark's bike that day to take it to Colorado.  Since Apple Valley wasn't too far out of my way, I figured might as well make a full day of riding out of it!

I first asked my wife if she wanted to ride with me, but her answer was; "it will be too cold, you can go by your self!"  Okay looks like I'll be going! (-:

After staying at a party on New Years Eve, to watch the new year coming in, when we got home we found that our dog (the excape artist) was out again, so I just went to bed around 12:30am and figured she would find her own way home.  At 2am we get a message from our son that he found her checking things out around the house, so he brought her in and in the garage she went for the night! Grrr.

The alarm went off at 5:30am and I got up and got ready for the ride. The temps were around 40, so I put on my electric liner and gloves and took off. It is nice to be in cold weather and not feel cold.

The Sun was just starting to come up, so I was able to enjoy the Sunrise during the ride. To avoid a fear of ice on the road on Hwy SR138 near the Wrighwood turn and to miss the Pasadena Parade crowd I decided to just take I15 north to SR91 west and then I5 north. Traffic was pretty clear and after two hours of riding, and since I was close to my turnoff at Lake Hughes road, I decided I needed to take a break.

After my 30 minute break at Burger King, I rode the rest of I5 north to Lake Hughes road and then followed it up to Lake Hughes. Lake Hughes road has a lot of tight turns and such and like often when I'm on roads like that I got motion sickness! It was too cold to have the whole front of the helmet up, so I did the best I could without freezing my face off!

By the time I got to the Rock Inn, there was already a crowd of STs in front. So I rode until I found an open spot and pulled in and parked. After a couple of pictures, I went inside to find Byron, Bill and Adam already sitting down. It looked pretty busy in there! I found a spot across from Kevin (KLackey) and we ordered drinks and food. It took mine forever to come because the waitress forgot to put my order in. Oh well, I finally got there and down it went.

After we all ate, one group took off for Capt Gruuvy's and I saw Bill and Byron still getting ready, so I waited for them. Byron "knew" the way and off we went. When Byron missed the Lake Elizabeth Road, I was wondering where he was taking us, because my GPS wasn't saying to go the way his was. So we took the scenic route through Lanchaster and then Palmdale before hitting the desert on SR138 to SR18 that goes into Victorville. Then Byron's GPS took us north on I15 to SR18 east to Apple Valley. Apple Valley was known for many years as the home of Roy Rogers.

We finally made it to Capt Gruuvy's and found that those that left before us, actually arrived before us. (their GPS must have known the way a little better then Byron's! LOL)

We all introduced each other, (I'm usually lucky to remember names, no more then a couple at a time) and then BSed while Ed (Onicabbit) was helping Rod get his new bike (Capt Gruuvy's old bike) ready for his trip back to Colorado.

We all had a good time comparing notes and looking at the different bikes and comparing farkles. (A Farkle is a Fancy, Accessory, Really Kool & Likely Expensive.
